How can we improve water management in Indian cities?
Awarded a grant under IDRC’s ‘Cities and Climate Change’ initiative, Athena has been tasked with designing and implementing a comprehensive blue-print for water resource management at the catchment and city level in the southern Indian city of Vijayawada. As part of the study, a baseline of the city’s hydrology and climate will be conducted, post which bespoke decision support tools and catchment management plans will be developed. Spread over 3 years, this project will use an evidence-based inter-disciplinary, stakeholder-driven decision making approach for cross-jurisdictional integrated water resource management. This aims to deliver enhanced awareness and effective participation of all stakeholders in adopting the approach at the urban, rural and peri-urban levels.
